Readers have long known of problems in the Spanish Bible. The beloved Reina Valera was based on the Textus Receptus (TR) used by the early church but Valera himself said corrections were still needed. Revisions including the RV 1909 and 1960 were supposed to fix the problems, but instead added liberal readings changing God's words. After years of work, the Reina Valera Gómez (RVG) Bible is finally available. A true, Textus Receptus Bible, the RVG has been proofread and refined by Spanish-speaking Christians in 13 countries. This revision of the RV 1909 is the first Spanish Bible that is not the product of a small committee.

A few facts about this translation.

Let me dispel falsehood with truth so the public can be fully aware and well-informed.
Fact #1: The RVG 2010 is NOT just some copy/paste job of the KJV. Gomez admit as as much. Greek and Hebrew scholars admit as much. Any Spanish-speaking person with an RVG could tell you as much. The Spanish, while beautiful, is not word for word what is in the KJV. I have the RVG 2010/KJV Parallel Bible and can immediately see differences in expression and phrases though remaining true to the underlying texts in both English and Spanish.
Fact # 2: This Bible does NOT only cater to the KJV Only crowd. In the KJV Only movement there are three factions of Spanish version supporters. They are the RVG 2010 group, the RVG Purificada Group, and the 1865 Valera Group. Basically the issue is a non-issue altogether as the RVG 2010 answers the criticisms of those who adhere to the other two positions. The RVG Purificada was published by ONE church which would not cooperate with other churches on the translation issue. The 1865 Valera is usually upheld by Ruckmanites. If you do not know what Ruckmanites are then thank God the heresies they espouse have not reached you. The third group, RVG 2010, is upheld by men who have seen the labor, studied the issue and know what is at stake. Also, the RVG 2010 is gaining widespread popularity in many groups. Besides, how can someone claim the Spanish Bible is for KJV Only brethren when it is a Spanish translation? To do so is to smack of ignorance.
Fact #3: It is NOT through the demands of the KJVO groups that the RVG 2010 came into existence. Many of the KJVO brethren used the RV 1960 in their missions work. That is the equivalent of using the NIV. This is nothing new as many times men go to the foreign field and use whatever translation is most widely accepted. This translation came into existence because of many SPANISH brethren finding textual issues and departures from their older Valera editions. There was also wording which had different connotations than what the Scriptures intended as men snuck their theological bent into the translation work later on. For example, many Catholic phrases can be found in certain translations that are not true to the Greek or Hebrew.
Fact #4: The RVG 2010 is NOT predominantly in Mexican Spanish. It is in the common language of the entirety of the Spanish nations.
Fact #5: Gomez's education does NOT alter the translation's credibility. While Gomez may not have graduated from high school the question becomes, so what? He is a Spanish-speaking, native pastor. He knows his own native language. Shall we refer to the knowledge and education of Luther or Wycliffe as they worked on their translations? Wycliffe translated the Psalms from Hebrew to German and then to English. Luther translated from Latin to German. I could include more examples if I wanted to write a larger thesis, but this refutation is going to belong enough as it is. If we were to look at many of the KJV translators by today's standards they would be considered unworthy. Certain of the company taught themselves Greek and Hebrew. If one does not attend a theological seminary of stature then their knowledge of these languages is cast aside and/or treated as nothing. Gomez did not need to graduate high school to be called on by God to do some work of this nature. In many cases a knowledge of the native tongue is better qualification for translation than a fuller understanding of the Greek and Hebrew. I do not say this lightly. I personally know men who have worked on translations into other tongues. One recently finished the translation of the Scriptures into Romanian. Others are working on translations in other parts of the world which have no Scripture in their tongue; and, they never have had them in their tongue. Any man can consult a lexicon for the understanding of Greek and Hebrew terminology, but understanding the tongue into which it is being translated is as much a needed qualification as reading and understanding the underlying texts.
Fact #6: A Spanish pastor that is NOT fluent in Spanish? I doubt that and can attest to the falsehood of this. Brother Humberto Gomez currently holds revivals throughout the Spanish nations. One man he preaches with on a regular basis is a friend of mine, and the author of RVG 2010: God's Word in Spanish. I am also friends with Brother Gomez on Facebook. Most of his updates are in Spanish, FLUENT, CORRECT SPANISH. I do not know where this falsehood came from, but as I stated, it is easily refuted.
Fact #7: D. A. Waite is NOT the only consultant that has weighed in. Many Spanish-speaking preachers fluent in Greek and Hebrew have also examined the RVG 2010 for discrepancies and departures from the underlying Greek and Hebrew texts. They have found none. I am sure some will try to claim this does not count as they are KJVO Spanish preachers,but the simple truth is, they are not. They use Spanish Bibles, not the English KJV. What profit is the Word of God in English to those who do not speak or understand English? I know, some of my extreme KJVO brethren would stone me for such a statement, but the desire of every translator true to the burden placed on their heart by God has been to translate the Word of God into the common tongue for the good of the common people that they might know it, grow in it and live by it.
Fact #8: The RVG 2010 has NOT been revised "numerous times" in the past ten years. The truth is that only a handful of issues were corrected as men presented their cases for a different translation. As a matter of fact, the RVG 2010 has gone through less revisions than any English translation. Shall we cast out all of our versions and translations as well then? If we choose to stand by the Light Seeker's standards then, yes, we should cast out our Bibles. I seriously doubt Light Seeker could name all of these supposed changes. Yet, I could easily point them out as they do not number more than in the triple digits. Then again, comparing that to the 160,000+ changes made in the other translations I guess I smell a hint of hypocrisy and someone trying to seed angst as opposed to truth. How is that compared to the 300 changes made to our KJV when it was revised by the Translators in the 1600's and Blaney in the 1769? Corrections do not alter infallibility of God's Word. On the contrary, it shows us that God has others helping to keep the truth in check. When the KJV appeared with a misprint from some publisher in the 1600's it was the people of God who pointed out these errors of the printers and had it corrected. In the issue of the RVG 2010 all suggested corrections were prayerfully taken into consideration and examined for support. Yet, as I stated, only a handful of changes have ever been made. No English Bible can make this same claim other than the KJV.
Fact #8 There is NO MAJOR DEMAND for the RVG 2010? What?! Is this reviewer serious? I doubt so. The RVG 2010 is in such demand that backorders pile up. Semi truck loads are gone as soon as they are printed and arrive. Missionaries are ordering them and handing them out by the cases. Great revival has broken out in the Spanish-speaking nations where this translation is gaining ground. So, a FEW, FRINGE fundamentalists are asking for it and it is causing the printers to fight to keep up?
Fact #9: The RVG 2010 was NOT the work of one man alone. You stated that large councils hosted by the early church agreed upon the Scriptures. As I believe I have already stated, and so do again, the RVG 2010 was offered to the entire Spanish world for input and review. Though I am a humble outsider to the whole process, various sources have relayed to me the truth of this. The RVG 2010 is indeed the result and effort of many in the Latin American world crying out for a proper translation in their own tongue. It was not just Baptists who called for this. As I stated before, there were wordings that read and smacked of Catholic influence. When the conference at Hampton Court was called it was only the Puritans who cried out for a better translation than that being offered in the Bishop's Bible. Did the cry of one faction mean the cry was insignificant? No, for King James also saw the weaknesses of the state-church produced translation. If we follow your mentality then Erasmus should never have collated the Textus Receptus. Luther should have never translated the Heilige Schrift. Wycliffe should have never translated the perverse Latin Vulgate into the English tongue. Add to that the myriad of other men whom God raised up to work on a translation before the world at large knew it needed them translated.
Fact #10: The RVG 2010 IS INDEED at the center of large revival in the Latin American world. Light Seeker can deny it all he wants, but I have kept an eye on the men involved in these revivals. They are crying out for more laborers. Their reports are far larger in scope than any other supposed revivals. What else needs to be said? Revival is happening everywhere the RVG 2010 is being used in Latin American nations. I will let it continue to speak for itself.
Fact #11: Light Seeker is NOT unbiased. Why should he be? Neither am I unbiased. The difference is that I can tell you the RVG 2010 is a great translation, sound in its theological truths and founded soundly upon sound scholarship even if it bears the name of one man who oversaw the process. He labored in the work and deserves to be given due acknowledgement as much as Reina or Valera. He did not call it the RVG. No, it was thrust upon him by those who believed his work was admirable and worthy of praise. There is no need to move on if you are not KJVO. Why? THE RVG 2010 IS NOT THE KJV!!! I cannot make that any clearer. Though they both come from the same eclectic MT and TR text types, they read uniquely to their own languages while being true to the originals.
If you think I am bent to the KJV position I will not hide it. I used the NLT until I was 22. After much prayer and tedious research I came to find out the superiority of the eclectic Textus Receptus text and the KJV. I studied historical accounts by men on all sides. I studied the doctrinal implications. I have dedicated a good portion of a decade to researching the truth about the textual issue and I am still not done researching. I accessed many ancient works for unbiased accounts of the truth. In the end the conclusion of the superiority of the KJV was undeniable. My doctorate thesis was on the subject of inspiration and preservation as it related to the issue of Bible versions. How could I stand on the side of error when I had seen the truth. Others may disagree, and that is fine. They are allowed to do so. I have many friends who are not KJV Only. That does not alter my stand. However, I never let ANY man get away with speaking falsehoods. I do not care if it is a KJV Only man speaking a partial truth to hide something he thinks may mar his position, or a man seeking to outright destroy the faith of others in the Word of God. Truth MUST prevail in all things. For this reason, we must all be students of truth and do our best to search out what others try to conceal. I hope this review of the review helps dispel any falsehoods propagated.

Good but the print is tiny

I have a friend whose first language is Spanish and she got this Bible but the print was so tiny she returned it for the large print version. Unfortunately even the large print version is not truly large print and she still needs to use reading glasses or a magnifying glass for reading, but otherwise she is very happy with this Bible. Her English version is King James which often has words and terms that are hard for her (and many of us) to understand, such as "noisome pestilence" (which if you look it up means "deadly diseases"). She has run into a couple of words even in this Spanish version that she did not know what they meant, but overall it is very good -- and from what I understand it is a translation much superior than most of today's Spanish translations.

Most Accurate Spanish Bible

Being a missionary in Mexico for 15 years, I have studied with diligence the subject of the Spanish Bibles. I have carefully examined every side of the arguments for and against all the available Spanish Bibles and have come to the conclusion that the RVG is the closest Spanish translation to the King James and Textus Receptus available today. Some proponents of other Spanish translations (in particular the RV1960) will argue that their Bible has been accepted by the majority of the evangelical Christian world, but this is not a Bible Believers basis for accepting a Bible.
