The Art of Being Remarkable: Learn, Return, Earn

(I bought this book on Amazon.ca and this is a repeat of the review I made of the book on the Canadian site that I want to share with a larger public)
Learn, Return, Earn! That's the message of this extraordinary book in a nutshell. Turn the ways things have been done upside down! Give without expecting any return, the rest will take care of itself. In doing so you will find your passion, your gift for this world and you will become remarkable. You will have contributed in changing this world to be a better, happier place.
That's a fabulous �reset� of values that Yann Girard proposes to us. Do not wait for having enough, having made it, etc. before giving to others, as this moment might never come. Start giving today as quickly as you learn. Share, do not wait for the right moment as this moment does not exist.
This is the Art of Being Remarkable.
This book, that Yann is sharing with us, he calls a �manifesto�. A manifesto that speaks about a life that matters, one that really tries to speak to all of us.
I could also have titled this review: �Perfect is not an adjective, Perfect is a verb�. Yann Girard does not claim to be perfect. He does not promise you the perfect life. Rather he says that one will always be on a journey to perfect oneself. To perfect oneself is to do better at finding our passion and at putting it at the service of others. Ultimately we are remarkable because, through improving day after day our mastery of this passion, we will be better at sharing our unique talent to the world. In doing so, we will help others to find their own passion, their own gift, their own purpose. We will enable others to also leave their own unique mark in this world, change this world.
Yann Girard warns us however that although it is possible to change the world, it is only possible through hard work, the work of a lifetime. And along the way you will have self-doubt, you will make mistakes, you will stumble and fail and have to restart again. Being remarkable can only be achieved through� taking the road less taken�, to paraphrase Robert Frost's poem, a metaphor Girard refers to many times
Yann Girard also tells us that life is not about money, but rather about the use of time to work at giving our gift to the world, to do something that matters at the end. Money lost can always be found again. Time lost is lost forever. In his own words: �Money is a highly fluid thing. Time on the other hand is not. Time lost can never be made back. Money on the other hand can....Today's time can not be replaced with tomorrow's time. It's different “time”. And our time on this planet is limited.�
Yann Girard is already remarkable at many things. He tells us not to rely on what he writes, as he may well be wrong; so he is remarkable at being humble. He uses plenty of quotes from both famous and less famous people to illustrate his own ponderings; so he is remarkable at finding wisdom, inspiration, support and help in the life and words of others and in sharing those. He says that he has no magic recipe to offer, only pointers here and there that worked for him but might not work for others; so he is remarkable at not being the promoter of false dreams, as he honestly does all his best at not deceiving us in order to make a fast buck on the back of our illusions. He might write an imperfect English (his mother tongue is German), but he uses small very simple sentences; so he is remarkable at being easily understood and highly quotable.

�The first and most important step on your path to finding your passion and uncovering your true self is to invest in yourself.�
�Helping people, whatever that might look like for you, is the way to really figure yourself out. Helping other people is actually the best way to help yourself.�

The book is full of this simple wisdom that can be understood by everyone and that can inspire everyone.
This is an extraordinary book. The author is only 30 years old, he is full of self-doubt, he has stumbled and failed many times. We can feel that his failures, from which he learned already a lot, were very painful to him. So, except for his young age (Surely an asset for the Y Generation, his generation and the largest generation in all human history to come to age), Yann Girard is not different from any of us. He talks to and for all of us. This why this book is so extraordinary.
I for one, at 62, relate completely with all he writes in this �manifesto�. His story is my story, his self-doubt is my self doubt, the pain of his failures is the pain of my failures. While telling his story, Yann Girard tells my story, and most probably the story the vast majority of us. I understand what he is telling us because it is about myself. It is about all those of us who look at their life sincerely, frankly, without denial, do not accept the status quo and want to live a remarkable life, a life that matters. And he is able to do this at such a young age, telling bluntly what everyone feels but cannot express without feeling great distress and unworthiness. This is being really remarkable.
At the end of his �manifesto�, he gives this last word of advice:
�There's a fine line between following your passion and being remarkable. They are not the same. Being remarkable only starts at the intersection of doing what your passion is and what the world really wants and desperately needs.� - Yann Girard
Get this book, read it many times, use it to inspire you on the road less traveled: the road that will get you to be yourself, live your unique passion, share it with the world, matter and be remarkable. A very helpful and thought provoking book!

Yann's book like no other inspires readers to realize their own uniqueness and celebrate it in order to live their lives to the fullest and become remarkable. Many people can't find their true calling because they don't realize their inner power or struggle to unleash their inner fire that will help them to achieve major changes in life. They also strive to become like everyone else instead of being themselves and use their "unique voice" to stand out and create their own story. And it is one of the most common reasons why people can't figure out their gift to this world, why they live a mediocre life and aren't happy.
In this book, the author emphasizes the importance of being yourself and states that the only person who can help you to unleash your potential is you. And it all starts with understanding yourself, "Understanding yourself, taking the time and having the patience to understand yourself is the key to understanding the world, your own life and your purpose."

Reading the book feels like talking to an old friend. I love the "I don't know. Nobody knows. It's all BS..." attitude of it. It is not written in a preaching mode... “You have to do this, then this...” it is more of an eye opening type of writing, it provokes the reader out of his comfort zone and makes him think about the subjects, things, goals... life, life story.
This book is a calibrating device for your brain. A tool for putting it back where it should be all the time. It helps you to turn down the noise around you and focus on big things in your life.
Highly recommended.
