Great for studying solos by one of the greatest jazz musicians in history. Miles concepts fo soloing are amazing. Must study great for trumpet players and clarinet players that want to learn about jazz.

These are great transcriptions in the Hal Leonard tradition. The Miles Davis Omnibook is a great complement to the faster paced Charlie Parker Omnibook. The rhythmic notations are challenging and rewarding if you can play them as written. To play this music is to appreciate the genius that is Miles Davis. Once you can play some of the pieces in the Charlie Parker and Miles Davis Omnibooks, you can move on to try your hand at improvisation against say a backing track on "How to Play Jazz and Improvise" by Jamey Aebersold.

Its about time this book came out, and its also about time it came out in Bb. Why a book of trumpet solos was only initially released in concert key is beyond me - tons (50) of tunes, including the heads, w/ songs spanning all eras, transcribed w/ Miles' inflections, as well as the solos - this book is awesome !

About the Author

John A. Van de Walle was a professor emeritus at Virginia Commonwealth University. Additionally, John was very active in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), writing book chapters and journal articles, serving on the board of directors, chairing the educational materials committee, and speaking at national and regional meetings.

Karen S. Karp is a professor of mathematics education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Prior to entering the field of teacher education she was an elementary school teacher in New York. Karen is the volume editor of Annual Perspectives in Mathematics Education: Using Research to Improve Instruction and is the co-author of Developing Essential Understanding of Addition and Subtraction for Teaching Mathematics in Pre-K-Grade 2, Discovering Lessons for the Common Core State Standards in Grades K-5 and Putting Essential Understanding of Addition and Subtraction into Practice Pre-K – Grade 2. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and a former president of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators.�She continues to work in classrooms with teachers of�students with disabilities.

Jennifer M. Bay-Williams is a professor of mathematics education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Jennifer taught elementary, middle, and high school in Missouri and in Peru, and continues to work in classrooms at all levels with students and with teachers. Jennifer has published many articles on teaching and learning in NCTM journals. She has also authored and co-authored numerous books, including: Developing Essential Understanding of Addition and Subtraction for Teaching Mathematics in Pre-K-Grade 2, Math and Literature: Grades 6-8, Math and Nonfiction: Grades 6-8, Navigating through Connections in Grades 6-8, Mathematics Coaching: Resources and Tools for Coaches and Other Leaders. Great Resource!

I have been teaching math for 10 years and read this book for a graduate class. It is such a great resource for new and veteran teachers! It offers realistic ways for teachers to move away from the "traditional" way most teach with direct instruction and move toward student-centered problem solving strategies. I'm hoping the cost of it goes down so it is more accessible for people because it is changing the way I teach!

Amazing resource

This book is an amazing resource for an elementary school teachers. I had the pleasure of taking a college course taught by one of the writers, using this book. This is truly one of the most valuable college textbooks I have used. I imagine that I will be referencing it several hundred times in my career. It's great! One of the best features is that each chapter has a list of children's literature that goes with the concept taught! So helpful!

Not an informative book - poorly written. Save your $ and time.

In addition to the other like comments panning this book, I feel compelled to add mine. While the author may maintain to be an expert on the subject of luxury branding, her ability to convey this knowledge in a publication is not reflective of this claim. If I had a soft copy of the text, I would run a count of how often she used the word "also" and how frequently she refers to the book, "4 Inches"* (Jimmy Choo)...I began to wonder if every mention equated to a new pair of shoes? *amusingly, the book index actually claims 4X, but since I wasn't keeping track, I am unable to verify this number

While I am sure the author is a lovely woman, awareness of company names and designer brands does not make one an expert on this subject. I kept hoping for something insightful, but a gem of wisdom never materialized. By the time I reached page 164, deciding to save my time and put the book aside, I had used almost 2 packages of editing tags (close to 100) to flag errors and missing citations.

A sample of problems with the book include:
* Very cursory examination of subject - quite frankly, her knowledge appears limited to brand names; I wouldn't even describe it as a "general" overview, as it doesn't achieve this level of information
* Very few citations of her information
* Excerpts from material by experts in the field does not lend credibility to this book...the author should understand the content and context before referencing
* Repetitive information - author frequently jumps between topics
* Vague graphics
* Out-of-date information for the date of publication
* I couldn't begin to count the frequency of grammatical and spelling errors
* Makes comparisons of visual media, but then only shows one of the images mentioned (where is the comparison?)
* Many statements "of fact" without any reference, including many statistics the reader can only assume the author created to validate her point
* A numerous filler words and unnecessary information to fill pages, perhaps? Ironic, considering the dedication to her mother, which states, "...from whom I learnt that quality and substance are always better than quantity and size".
* Whether or not the author's sister is a trained editor, it was a mistake to use her as the "proof-reader".

Unfortunately, not a worthwhile expense or read.

Luxury Fashion Branding gives a broad overview of all marketing aspects of this industry. Starting off with the history of luxury this book gives an understanding of the roots of todays fashion brands. Visual Merchandising and service is being described as well as evolving ecommerce aspects. The book is well structured and written, but could be more progressive. I expected to find some more groundbreaking future trends. It is no secret anymore that the trend goes towards high street fashion as well as customisation. Generally I recommend this book to students of luxury marketing and professionals who have just entered this industry. For those who have been working in this industry for a while it can be used to review.

Egypt of the Pharaohs, 3rd edition

This is the textbook we use in my Egyptian History course at the University of Alabama. It is a great book on egypt stretching from the old stone age to the Ptolmic Pharaohs.
Interesting to read, I disagree somewhat with Gardiner, but i read the book thirty years after it's first publication. Gardiner's book is essential to anyone wanting to understand Egypt.

interesting for adults

I purchase this book for my 14 year old son since he is very interested in Egyptology. The book was recommended by a tour guide in Cairo. I have to say that it is good for adults since the language is not suitable for teenagers unless they have outstanding reading and comprenhension skills

A classic study and reference for non-classical scholars.

Written by a master in his field and well-written at that, it is no wonder this work finds a place of honor in practically all the bibliographies of succeeding publications. Gardner covers Egyptian history from predynastic times to Greco-Roman, mentioning even the most obscure pharaohs and figures. The plates are exquisite even some forty years after the original photos for them were taken. One's only complaint might be that, since the format guidelines were somewhat different in the 60's, there aren't two spaces after each sentence, but this only takes a couple chapters to get used to. For a closing statement, I recommend you obtain this book so that you may read Gardner's own, for its closing statement rings with the charming chivalry that Gardner and many of his contemporaries practiced.
