About the Author
Don Cerow is a certified NCGR Level IV astrologer known for the depth of his celestial insights. A professional since 1972, his interest has been in how astrology evolved from the mythology and astronomy of ancient peoples. He's produced shows for radio and television and has taught at colleges, universities, and planetariums across the country. In 2005 he wrote and produced a multi-media show for Fiske Planetarium at the U of Colorado, Boulder entitled Stars, Myths and Dragons. In "When the Dragon Wore the Crown," Cerow explores the symbolism, mythology, and astronomy of our ancient ancestors. As is my usual habit, I flipped to the back of the book to check out the footnotes and found a beefy footnotes section. The book has a nice set of of charts and should be a great jumping off point for further studies.

While the book is well-written, I couldn't help but feel that the artwork was the best part of the book. "When the Dragon Wore the Crown" is packed with the best collection of pictures that I have seen in a book in the last couple of years.

All in all, the book was a fun and informative read. I really enjoyed reading it and loved the art. This is a book that I would recommend for the art alone. I give "When the Dragon Wore the Crown" four stars out of five and recommend it for your home library.

John Drane teaches practical theology at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He is also an adjunct Professor of New Testament at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA, and a Visiting Professor at Morling College, Sydney, Australia. His other publications include Introducing the Old Testament and The Bible Phenomenon.

This is a great book for anybody who has questions about the context, background and stories of the bible. It answered many questions that I always had and sometimes wasn't even aware of. The book is written in an interesting, engaging style that does not require a scholarly approach. Highly recommended.

In 1954, 16-year-old fan Haspiel received his boldly requested kiss on the cheek from Marilyn Monroe. This began a friendly association that was to last until Monroe's untimely death. Haspiel deftly recounts his experiences tracking and photographing "Mazzie" everywhere from glamorous movie events to quiet outings with friends. Through subsequent moments shared with her in cabs, crowds, lobbies, on street corners, and the like he reverently observes the real woman behind the headlines. This is not a biography, although it does contain knowledgeable data on Monroe's life and career. Rather, it is a sensitive reminiscence from an illuminating perspective. I've reviewed this book before, years ago, on Barnes & Noble's website, and I have to again because James Haspiel's books on Marilyn are the best for any fan to own. His coverage of her career is spot on, thorough, and because of this I love his books the most.

About the Author
Guoguang Wu is Professor of Political Science, Professor of History, and Chair in China and Asia-Pacific Relations at the University of Victoria, Canada. He was involved in China's Party Congress as a policy advisor to then Party Chief Zhao Ziyang and a member of the draft group of the Central Committee's report to the Congress. The author, co-author and editor of twenty-two books in both English and Chinese, he is also a contributor to journals including Asian Survey, China Quarterly, Comparative Political Studies, the Journal of Contemporary China, the Pacific Review, Social Research, and Third World Quarterly.

This is a ground-breaking study. The author, who is a prominent political scientist specializing in China, tries to explain why a Leninist party bothers to convene a mostly symbolic conference once every five years (now, but not under Mao Zedong). He finds that the party congress performs very important functions of legitimizing leadership, rallying the officials behind a policy agenda, and consolidating factional networks. Wu analyzes changes from Mao to Hu Jintao and shows how top party leaders skillfully manipulate the procedures of the congress to achieve their political objectives.
